Weather service's extreme heat warning now extended until 8 p.m. Friday instead of Thursday.
The week in Metro Detroit begins with a hot day, but it's only just the beginning. Temperatures near 100 and head indices closer to 105 are expected later this week.
After a cool and bright start, temps will reach the upper 70s with clouds increasing. Rain will be in the area this afternoon and evening.
The region has reached triple digits before.

Metro Detroit weather: Excessive heat warning extended into Friday
Extreme heat will continue today with highs in the mid to upper 90s. Then there will be minor drops in the temps each day through the weekend.
Hot and humid conditions are expected to push temperatures into the upper 80s and lower 90s on Wednesday, with heat index values climbing to the 96-102 range.
Isolated storms may be strong to severe this week, the National Weather Service predicts.
The unsettled weather pattern will continue late Wednesday into Thursday morning as additional showers and thunderstorms move across Southeast Michigan.
The heat gets started today with high temps near 90, while feeling like 95° at times. Extreme heat is expected to begin Tuesday
