On December 9, 1941, Squadron Leader Arthur Scarf's entire squadron was destroyed. The 28-year-old pilot was the only one airborne. He chose to fly alone towards the heavily defended Japanese target at Singora. Under severe fire, he completed his bombing run, but was mortally wounded during the fight back.
