Here’s a bit slower (non chipmunk) version of me beginning the ink underdrawing on my next zodiac piece “Capricorn”. This is all part of the classic 14th century Italian technique of painting described by Cennino Cennini in his book “Il libro dell’arte” or “The Craftsman’s Handbook”. It begins with a handmade true gesso panel, in this case an 12”x24” baltic birch play wood panel with numerous layers of gesso made from rabbit skin glue and marble dust. This is sanded down to a near perfect finish
