14 years ago today, R.E.M. released their 14th album, ACCELERATE. The band leaned into a heavier rock sound on the project and infused the album with the same electric energy seen in their live shows. Rolling Stone called it "one of the best records R.E.M. have ever made" at the time of its release, and noted "much of Accelerate was cut in live-band takes and even tested onstage [...] and it shows."
